Power…

The Lord has been tenderly reminding me of truths He has taught me so many times before…

Look closely at the picture below.  The second picture  is a zoomed in version of the first…

Look at the tail end of the scooter.

I had to laugh… I felt amused… I have seen some crazy things in Costa Rica that are very different, but this was a first.

Who puts a tow hitch on a little scooter?  This may sound strange, but I felt like the Lord was speaking to me through this.

He was reminding me of two things… 1)  Don’t doubt the power of small things.   2)  Just because something has never been done before doesn’t mean that it can’t be done!!!!

Thank you, Lord.  Those were good reminders.

He has been lovingly encouraging me so much lately.  The way He’s been speaking has been so rich for my heart. Actually, one of the things that He has reminded me of…
Is the power of friendship.  It’s hard to think of something more powerful!

My wife shows this with her life better than anyone I know… offering friendship even if it’s not reciprocated.  And it is so powerful.  She is always working hard behind the scenes… creating ways to bless… ways to love… ways to offer encouragement and friendship.

Sometimes friendship looks like celebrating someone who’s never been celebrated…

Fortunate for us, we have been on the receiving end of such beautiful, powerful friendships!  In terms of friendships, I’m the richest man in the world!

We were so, so blessed to have friends from Ohio travel thousands of miles… do you know why?  Simply to encourage us!

They walked in such humility and love…

They poured out love…
I’m still overflowing, and they left weeks ago!  We’re all so grateful for our time with them.  The Lord touched so many through them.  So many people were healed of physical issues… so many people were touched by the Father’s tender love.  So, so, so good.  Together (as friends), we’re so much more powerful.

I learned much from my friends.
Simply showing up… means so much.  In the two pictures below… I simply showed up to help.  I had no idea what I was doing.  Friendship encourages.

We’re planning a trip back to the US this fall… just the anticipation of seeing friends and family is a powerful encouragement!

In one of my recent sermons, I was preaching about Zacchaeus.  I’m always struck by the fact that one encounter (literally, a few moments) with Jesus completely changed Zacchaeus.  As I processed it even more, I wondered, “What exactly did Jesus offer him?”  Jesus didn’t deliver anyone in his presence.  He didn’t do any miracles.  Jesus simply offered him a gesture of friendship.  Wow!  How powerful is that?!?  I don’t ever want to underestimate the power of something small… even a small gesture of friendship and kindness.  Such an encouraging truth…

Another powerful encouragement…

Last year we attended the Guanacaste Annexation Day Celebration!  As I profusely sweated, I watched the children in typical Tico clothing dance and sing.  I don’t remember understanding anything that they said.  What I remember more than anything was feeling like an outsider.  I was clueless, and I didn’t feel like I belonged.

Well, this year, we didn’t watch it from the outside.  We actually participated!  We really did it.  Well, at least the kids did… either way, it’s a huge reminder of how much the Lord has done in year!

The Lord has breathed powerful encouragement into us by giving us opportunities to encourage others.  Kelly continues to serve at the school every day.  This week I had the opportunity to train 15 pastors from all around the country.  In addition, we were able to deliver groceries and offer prayer to a new pastor and his young family… a young pastor who needed to feel supported.  There’s so much power in the gift of friendship.  Culturally, it takes a little while for the walls of suspicion to fall here… watching them fall gives me so much joy… and they are falling.

Blessings and love to you, our faithful friends.  As always, thank you for reading… thank you for supporting… thank you for encouraging.  Thank you for being friends.
